With over 25 years of IT experience, Derek is an expert in cybersecurity, counterintelligence and digital forensics, as well as a background in law enforcement. As an ISO27001 Lead Auditor, Derek has spent his career designing infrastructure and systems to ensure compliance and minimise cyber threats. Derek has a passion for machine learning and has consulted and implemented Security Management Systems and Intelligence Analysis Systems for multinational organisations across Europe. Derek holds a Master of Science, Digital Investigation & Forensic Computing from University College Dublin, in addition to a Diploma in Information Technology and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Can CISO be replaced by Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning?

Synopsis:

Faced with the claims that robots and various shape automation systems will replace the majority of our current workforce, many professionals are in denial that it will affect their field. There is a broad understanding that automation will replace jobs, however humans will always be required to adjust algorithms. While standardised checklists & frameworks are more cost effective and can increase efficiency, we need to decipher which part of CISO jobs can be substituted by AI systems and which cannot. The main consensus is AI cannot be ignored and must be included in the future planning.
