Digital Health: EU Research and Innovation
Presentation Synopsis:
This presentation will look at TCD based projects within collaborative EU ‘Digital Health’ based Research and Innovation Programmes (E.g. H2020, AAL). Areas covered will include; Strategic planning for EU projects, key priority research areas, linking research with industry and brief examples of successfully funding projects at TCD.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. John Dinsmore is the Health Innovation Lead and Deputy Director of the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation (CPHI). His role involves building and leading teams to research and develop (R&D) new technologies, services and practices in a wide range of healthcare areas (which have included COPD, obesity, diabetes, mental health, ID and dementia). Key to this R&D approach is his ability to link academic research interests with those of entrepreneurs, industry and enterprise bodies. With a background in health psychology research Dr. Dinsmore’s work primarily focuses on behavioural change and technology use. Presently Dr. Dinsmore is involved with multiple national, European and international research projects including: DOCTRID ASSISTID (FP7) and BREATHE (EU AAL CALL 5). Recently Dr. Dinsmore was awarded €4.87 million as Coordinator for the ProACT (Integrated Technology Ecosystems for ProACTive Patient Centred Care) project (H2020 Call SC1-PHC25 2016 to 2019). ProACT targets Europe’s 50 million multimorbid patients to proactively self-manage and offset the EU’s annual €700billion cost of chronic disease management by providing and evaluating an open application programming interface to integrate a variety of new and existing technologies to advance ‘home based’ integrated care.
